Robbery at Night

Reported on December 6, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #29423

While returning from our office party i was driving, and was stopped at at police check post near palace grounds and asked if i had taken any form of alcohol. I truly responded saying that i had taken two glasses of wine. I was asked to undergo the breadth analyzer test. The test showed that my body alcohol content was 56 Blood alcohol limit way above the permissible 30 units. I was asked to park the car and handover the keys along with my driving license, i complied to their request, and followed them. What followed is probably one of my worst experience till **********.

I requested the office who took my test to calibrate the machine by taking a test himself, he declined doing so as he said it would be a waste of time for him. I was pretty confident that two glasses of alcohol will not make by alcohol content go so high. i debated with the officers for quite some time and following were the set of events which were happening around us

1) An elderly gentleman was being dragged by a police constable by his trouser
2) Two police constables caught riding a bike while being drunk
3) One constable hit a red ********** alto with a barricade. the Occupants were a handicapped father, his wife and their son on the wheels. probably they were going to the hospital. One side of the car was damaged.

In all this i was still not relieved my ordeal.

Time : 11:30 PM

The police officer told me that drunken driving is a serious offense and legally they were to seize my car and i can get it back only after appearing in the court. The only reason i was unwilling to give off my car was that i was selling it off the next day. The office told me that court is an expensive affair and he could arrange for a constable to go to the court representing me but i will have to pay the expenses which would be close to Rs. 3000/-

Time : 12:00 AM

I was tired of negotiating, and told him that i am willing to pay. The office told me to ********** his colleague in a dark corner of the road and hand him over the amount. Since i was not carrying sufficient cash i had to withdraw from the nearby Citibank ATM, and had over the cash to him. Thus ending my ordeal.

i consider the incident which happened to me last night no less than a highway robbery.
