At around 1:30 am, on a saturday night, seven police officers came to our apartment, started abusing us ( words like mad**ch**h,etc), while we were enjoying a couple of drinks in our own apartment. The police team comprised of 4 constables, 2 ASI and a three star Inspector in uniform. They started searching the house and throwing things around like we were criminals, without a reasonable cause, or a warrant. A couple of us got intimidated, and started apologizing for the drinking and the music, and these officers preyed on the fear. They searched the house, shuffling through our cupboards and clothes the entire time - accusing us of various crimes ( like terrorism and associating us with LTTE ) and of being a degenerate. When they couldn't find anything in our house , they confiscated our phones. When one of us finally got the courage to ask what was going on, they claimed that it was a police response to a noise disturbance reported by our neighbors. After all this, they took all of us - downstairs to the parking lot and asked us to board the police jeep. Since there were 6 of us and they had only one jeep, they told us to go to the small police cabin located in front of our apartment.
Here we gave the constable our details such as contact number, address, and even father's occupation. The inspector then joined us and informed us that we would have to undergo a medical check up, after which we would be detained at the police station until the time of our hearing. We were told to arrange for lawyers and it was even suggested that we contact our parents for transferring cash in order to post bail of Rs.30,000. The inspector claimed that our lives would be subsequently ruined; we would not be eligible for college admission and government jobs. His aim was to terrify us about our legal proceedings.
After constantly pleading to be let go for the crime - ( noise from music and possessing too many empty beer bottles) , one of the constables took one of us outside and inquired if we were ready to pay 1.5 lakhs to escape the procedures, we said we couldn't pay. He threatened us further with consequences and asked us to cough up money somehow - borrowing or selling something. This was happening just outside the station and by this time the inspector left . They thought us to be rich as we had many empty bottles in the house. So we had to convince him that we didn't have money and we told them our bank details. He told us to get 10,000 in 10 minuts and we did that.
Its despecable but we did some of us were too scared. After lot of convincing he let us keep 1000 rs for food.
In the tiny police station there was just one paper lying on the desk a fake report from earlier just like ours. The next day we come to know there was a fight below the apartment and everyone left by the time the cops came. while looking around they hear the music from our apartment. So they just come up, raid the apartment , say your future is destroyed ? An Inspector spends his nights scaring us into bribing for music and drink(2 pegs per person )?? at home??
If anyone can promise to take action i am willing to supply all details (area : Ambazari).
