One noon at around 12:30PM I was on my way to work , I work for a Software MNC in Whitefield for EMEA hours . My driver was driving me to work in a Fabia , whose number plate was broken 2 days ago. (Understood it was our mistake and violation of traffic rules we did get it done the same day ) . The Bangalore traffic police near Tin Factory bus stand towards KR Puram railway station tried to stop us ,the minute I saw the the cops flagging us down I removed all the money I had from my Purse and put it in the seat cover of the seat in front of me (was seated in the rear seat). The cop immediately after stopping us demanded a sum of Rs 500 , he could have fined us by giving us a ticket or something ,instead he just held our car and wont allow us to leave till we paid the money , (nothing else no taking us to the police station no fine ticket , just point blank money ) . I told him I had no money and I was getting late to work and all I was a Rs 50 sodexo in my purse and opened my purse and showed it to him also emptied my hand bag on the seat which had my tag and some change .. The cop then agreed to let us go after taking the Rs 50 Sodexo .
Its very sad and shameful that the Bangalore traffic police will take a Rs 50 Sodexo as bribe !!!
we could have been fined instead at least it would have saved the cop his dignity and made me / my friends whom I told the incident to realize that we are at fault and that the traffic police is doing its best and we need to comply with their rules and respect them .
This a disgrace to the Traffic Police .... Hope this incident gets to the Police commissioner's ears (not sure he might advice the cops to take Rs 100 and above in future ) sad , very sad !!!!
