Tourist bribe Goa

Reported on April 30, 2015 from Panaji , Goa  ι Report #59729

Me and three friends were stopped by two police officers on the Panaji bridge, the one that connect the city with the northern part of Goa state (around 11 AM). We were riding our scooters, rented in order to better enjoy our journey, while the police officers stop us and asked us the driving licenses. Just one out of four of us had a proper international driving license. The other three just had national driving licenses, which the officers report to not be valid to drive a small scooter in Goa State. He started saying that we had to pay a fine of 1200 rupies each (3200 in total) but later, after much time spent of bargaining, he accepted just 2000, without giving us any receipt for the "fine". We don't know the name of the officers.
