Travel without *******

Reported on March 7, 2012 from Bathinda , Punjab  ι Report #2713

I still can not remember this without feeling a sense of shame. My father a teacher retired from Government Service and I were to travel from Bathinda to Patiala by Rail. We reached the Bathinda Railway Station barely in time to catch the train. We decided to board the train without a ticket reasoning that we would talk with the guard and ask him to prepare a ticket for us. On the train the Guard told us that he had nothing to do with tickets and that we should talk with the Train Ticket Examiner. The TTE told us that he would charge us a fine unless we paid ********** a bribe. Since we were already on the train we shamefacedly paid him Three Hundred Rupees. At the Patiala Railway Station he pointed us to the exit gate and told us to get out that way. We lingered for a while to go to the Toilet. In the meantime the train pulled out of Patiala on its onward journey. As we proceeded to the Patiala Railway Station exit gate we were accosted by another Ticket Examiner. When we related our story to him he said testily "Well tha fellow you gave money to should have told me something". He said that we would have to pay him too. We shelled out another couple of hundred rupees. What a nightmare!
