Not sure if "Using Mobile phone without handsfree" is a violation…

Reported on March 30, 2013 from Pune , Maharashtra  ι Report #34346

Not sure if "Using Mobile phone without handsfree" is a violation in Pune. I had started driving and took turn as I had just gotten out of my long-meeting and checking timing and status for my next meeting.

2-Pune-traffic Cops stopped me and claimed I should be paying Rs 700 as legal fine. I said, if it is a violation, it is my unintended violation and mistake. I apologise for my mistake and won't do it again. But no-way fine can be Rs 700, that's a lot. I asked for the details. They played good-cop-bad-cop and said well, we should be confiscating your license and you can visit station across the highway. He just took out his ticket-book and demanded original license to be handed over to him.

As I was on time-crunch and away from home, I repeated, I agreed and apologized for my violation. I am OK to take a nominal Rs 100 ticket and pay it off on-spot. Usual bargaining discussion started from Rs 500 and I ended up paying Rs 300 and leave.
