I have not put date because this has become custom in the commercial tax department may be not only in Udupi but in the entire state of karnataka. For a Vat registration earlier it was sales tax registration. one has to pay Rs.1000/- to the LVO(LOCAL VAT OFFICER)Rs.500/-(Inspector) & Rs.1100/- to the other staff means clerical, peons etc etc. I thought atleast after introduction of VAT this bribe would stop but unfortunately it is doubled now. day by day this is worsening. Nice to know some times lokayukta officials raids on the spot and news will be out.But to my surprise even though some of the commercial tax officials were caught by lokayukta situvation never ended still going on. Anyways one day these things may stop with the grace of God and ofcourse mass anti-corruption campaigning.
