Wanted a receipt for traffic fine, but was cajoled to give a bribe

Reported on December 3, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #29604

I was driving down Outer Ring Road near EMC office. At that time the road did not have any sign with speed limit posted.

I was driving with the traffic at around 80 kms. I was following a truck which was going at about the same speed.

I saw a number of police by the road, but did not care, because I thought I was not violating anything.

However, I was waived to a stop and told that I was speeding.
I asked what's the speed limit? He said "60 km".
Where is it written? No answer.

Then the cop checked all my documents, everything was in order. He was clearly disappointed, and asked for Rs 300/- as speeding fine.

I gave him 300/- and asked for a receipt. He was disappointed again, and handed me back Rs 200/- and asked me to go, and I went.
Looking back, I am ASHAMED of myself. I should have held my ground, paid 300/- and taken the receipt.
Ever stopped again, I shall always make sure I get a receipt.
