Honest and helpful SI

Reported on April 25, 2013 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #34436

We had a house in Srirampuram with 11 tenants residing on it The building was very old and very badly maintained as the rent paid by the tenants was very low and almost all of them had lived there for more than 15 years. In August 2011 a 11 foot compound wall and a block of 4 toilets came crashing down due to heavy rains. The tenants continued to occupy the place inspite of that as they were paying Rs800- 1200 for 2 and 3 bedroom houses ad chose to use toilets in another part of the building. The BBMP gave me a certificate asking me to pull the building down or bear the responsibility of any loss to life. I approached the local police station to file a complaint as I know that if I go to the court it would be years. The SI Mr Nagraj helped me greatly much beyond his authority he spoke to the tenants and gave them deadlines to vacate. I also noticed that he did this for everyone who approached for help without any expectations. It was very interesting to watch how the other officials in the station hated him as they missed their chance to harass and squeeze a bribe out. I met him a few weeks ago as part of the Traffic police, and I was surprised to find that its considered to be a demotion to be transferred to thetraffic department. I'm writing this because I want to know for one thing that if it is a fact that moving to traffic is demotion and also want to acknowledge and appreciate such officers who go out of their way to help. I also want to mention here that I'm a single woman with 3 children and mo male support. So for me to seek help from the police itself was a big thing. I actually don't mind revealing my identity if it will help in anyway

What's your reaction?
