Bribe for assessment of house tax.
Until I completed the construction of my house, I was paying tax for the vacant land annually to Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). After completion of construction, I informed BDA about it and asked them to assess and let me know the house tax to be paid. A revenue inspector visited me on a Sunday on the pretext that he was busy during week days and made the assessment and got my signatures on the relevant forms. After the forms were filled, he asked me to pay Rs.2000 as "fee".He wanted the "fee" for favouring me on a Sunday! When I said that it was his choice to come on a Sunday, he went away saying that I will never receive a demand notice from BDA and subsequently I will have to pay penalty. I waited for about a fortnight and then wrote a letter to Commissioner BDA quoting the name of the inspector who had come on a Sunday for tax assessment. Within a week, I received the demand notice from BDA for the house tax.
