I was travelling from the US to India after 2.5yrs and excited to see my country after 2.5yrs. I had bought 2 american buffalo gold coin with a total weight for aprox 60gms. I had declared this in my customs form and then was moving along to the customs. The initial customs screening asked whether I need a "Chalan" or a bill or not. He also told me that it would be around Rs. 20K as customs duty with the "Chalan". I clearly mentioned that want every lawfully and nothing illegal is gonna work with me. He backed of and said ok. Earlier the customs officer also wanted to check my checked in baggage too but as soon as I indicated that I do not wanted to pay the bribe he lost his interest in searching it. I am pretty sure that this is a normal thing at Bangalore Airport and if a Vigilance officer carry some gold and go through they will ask huge amount of bribe. I could sense that majority of the customs officers are also involve with the exception of some. I will be more than happy to help you in any sting operations.
