I waited for 4hrs at the airport but didnt pay a bribe
I live in the USA and visit my family every year. I usuaully go thru the green channel as I follow the custom rules. Once, I was carrying two laptaps one my personal and one of the company's laptop. I had a letter from the company stating the same. I had been asked to go to a room where one custom officer asked me to pay $20 for lettin payg me go as is without opening my bags and stuff. I told him, I am not going to pay any bribe as I am not doing anything wrong. He told me abt two laptops. I showed my letter but still he was not convence, he said he needs to verify the letter which may take 4-5hrs. I said thats fine by me. He again came after 1/2 hour and asked me to pay $10. I said I am sorry but I cannot. He tried to scare me by saying I will open your bags and it can go upto 6-7 more hours. I told him, pls go ahead. Later he came after 15mins and told me to go. I felt like I won something and was very happy.
But once I did pay bribe - me and my mom had gone to visit one patient after travelling for 2hrs in local train. We reached quite late n it was after the 'visit timings' My mom is very old and she really wanted to ********** the patient, so I paid Rs200 to the security so that I could buy 30mins to ********** the patient. I know its bad but felt helpless n did what I felt right at that time.
