While I sympathise with you, I would like to say that if you do not undertake the proper homework before going to the government, for a service, they you are likely to be more prone to paying bribes. For instance, what was the need for you to go to an agent for a tatkal passport, when you could have applied online and followed the due  process? You will read many cases where people ahve not paid bribes for obtaining their passports, because they followed the procedure. Please see the ten commandments on avoinding corruption that hae been put up on the site. These are available under the downloads. I am sure if you follow these guidelines, which have been taken from the collective wisdom of people who have successfuly resisted corruption, then people will not be able to demand bribes. Lamenting about the state of the country is not enough.

Hi Raghu I am not very happy with the entire system in India.I had to pay bribe for each and every thing here.I am fed up of entire system.Some times I feel like crying out loud.Recently I had to pay 10000 for Passport on tatkal.I dont know any one so had o approach an agent,first he asked for 7k then 2 k then 1 k ...I am educated and have 10 yrs of experience in IT.Previously It was like when my friends settled in foreign I used to feel how could they leave their birth place and go settle in some other country.Now after so much of these kind of happenings in life even now I started feeling better to leave india.atleast my kids wont suffer.but also worried abt my country. INDIA will loose talent because of these good for nothing politicians and govt employees.(who takes bribe).What is the way to stop this.I want progress in my country.What can I do as a person to stop this.
